Not an issue on a desk, but slightly uncomfortable to use on your lap. Even something older would be fine, but what i have now hasnt been changed in several years. But it will most certainly fit the bill as a tower replacement or tower backup, and properly configured, can handle just about any business use you can dish out. When it was delivered, the shift, alt, and control keys did not work at all. Incredible value for the money if you don't need something lightweight. The only noticeable drawback is that the frame of the machine is so large and thick that some users may feel that they have to reach to keyboard, which is located about 3 or 4 inches in from the chassis. Despite offering a cornucopia of ports, each port is adequately spaced and easy to access.
I missed the fine print which explained why when I booted the system I got a line saying I was missing an operating system! Ok, it's a bit heavy, so am I. Additionally, the touchpad is a bit more sensitive than most pads which seem to allow the cursor far more freely around the screen. That being said, the added weight and girth of this device is what users would expect. I also have the which holds this laptop, all the batteries and chargers, a mouse, and a spare Cat5 cable with no stress. So far it's met my graphics needs and have generally been super pleased. Additionally the anti-glare display lives up to its name resisting strong in-door lighting to provide a clear view. The test consists of a combination of automated web browsing, word processing, gaming and video playback workloads.
To be fair, this is a large heavy-duty laptop that weighs a lot and is expected to see business use. The grey and black finish of the chassis provides an understated look that is perfect for business, while still maintaining a smooth aesthetic. We apologize for any inconvenience. With the test being far more demanding the scores are understandably lower than our previous benchmark. The alloy coat is complimented by black protective plastic that outlines the face of the display and the bottom of the chassis. I sync the key folders several times each month and keep the laptop updated, but thankfully haven't had the need to use it as a frontline unit much at all. I do a lot of graphic work and so far this computer has been excellent. The display did give slightly to extreme pressure, but even then no noticeable rippling occurred on the display. It's not what you want for only occasional home use, or hardcore gaming. Again thanks in part to the machines large frame; it offers deep key compression allowing users to assuredly know when a key has been struck.

Once the super team of grandson and grandma got my system running, drivers updated, and other things loaded up, my 'new' laptop has been such a delight to use it's as though 10 was just a brief techmare and I am now awake with a spanking clean system, the large and well taken cared of 17. I ordered it with Windows 8 Pro 64-bit, same as my tower, and have the two units configured as identically as possible. . I've been playing Steam games on it and they work fine, but I'm not playing high end graphics-intensive games. The display is also perfect for multi-tasking thanks to its large resolution and screen size.
Getting spoiled by the super light and thin devices is fun, but this particular unit's weight gives me an added sense of stability and durability. It's fine for moving from one surface to another - but I wouldn't want to carry it around at an event. The fan also manages to keep the device relatively cool, though the area directly sounding the fan tends to get a bit warm at times. I bought this as a backup to my home-office tower primarily because of Superstorm Sandy - that knocked out power and cable internet for 10 days and I had no way of working. I bought this to upgrade from my 8570w and have been very disappointed with my experience getting the internal broadband working. As a mobile workstation and desktop replacement the EliteBook 8770w does have some weight to it.
The 3 hour battery life is admittedly not fantastic, but it serviceable especially given the size and weight of this device. The test is far more strenuous than our previous test, measuring the machine under a litany of scenarios to better simulate real life use. The device has three speakers two which are located at the front end of the chassis and another located on the bottom left of the device. Within the same email 2 versions of driver were included, 1. The combination proved to be more than enough for normal computing tasks and even managed to handle more complicated processes fairly well; but when compared against other desktop replacements and mobile workstations, the EliteBook rest amongst the middle of the pack. The EliteBook 8770w offers extremely generous viewing angles, with the image quality staying in tact till about 180 degrees.
As with most readers sometimes swiping your finger at an odd angle will cause it to misread. At 50 percent capacity the speakers are able to produce clear and crisp audio quality that is more than loud enough for individual use. More annoying is that the bottom gets pretty warm. The folks at Southron are to be commended for taking excellent care of this machine, and this customer. However, depending on the build of the machine there may be limited space to add components. This is a very functional computer so far but it feels extremely heavy.
